Legacy of Hope Sunset Cocktail Reception Honors Malteser International
The international humanitarian work of the Sovereign Order of Malta, the oldest Christian charity in the world, will be recognized at the inaugural Legacy of Hope Sunset Cocktail Reception in Southampton this month.
Hosted by Malteser International, the relief agency of the order, the reception will be at the Southampton Historical Museum’s Rogers Mansion on Friday, July 18 from 6–8 p.m.
Displays of the Malteser International’s good works will serve as a highlight of the event. A photo exhibition will focus on relief efforts in the Philippines after the recent typhoon and throughout Long Island after Superstorm Sandy. In 2013 alone, the organization’s aid totaled more than $60 million, reaching approximately 10 million people in need across 26 countries.
Historical Knights of Malta memorabilia will also be on display, including a replica of the 900-year-old authorization of the order.
While taking in the displays, guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Southampton’s 230 Elm and ales, lagers and wines from Southampton Publick House.
Another feature of the evening includes an expansive silent auction to benefit the organization. Donations up for auction include a Berry Brown tote bag, VIP passes to Art Southampton and jewelry by Tamara Commolli. In addition, gift baskets featuring fashions from Space 16, Erika’s Place and Christopher Fischer will be available for bids, as well as gift certificates from numerous area restaurants.
Southampton resident Steven Krawciw, member of the Order of Malta’s American Association, is chair of the reception, along with a Host Committee, including fellow Hamptons residents as well as those from Long Island, New York City and Palm Beach. The Host Committee (in formation) list features illustrious names, such as Sherri and Joseph Abruzzes, Cass Almendral, Maura Almy, Sandra Alvarado, Katherine and Gary Andreassen, Angela Anton, Christopher Arnold, Eileen Duff Babcock, Kenneth Craig, KM, Ertel and Erin Dere, Sara Herbert Galloway and Barry Klarberg, Michael Gibbons, KM and Maureen Gibbons, DM, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Constance Hunter, Ann and Vincent Madonia, Ms. Susan Madonia, Joanna Mincarelli, William Morosse, KM and Mar Morosse, DM, Joyce Mullins-Jackson, Ann Rapp, Martin and Jean Shafiroff, Mark and Kim Standish, Nancy Stone, Father Michael Vetrano (Pastor, Basilica of Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary), Dr. Frank and Myra Weiser, and Daniela Zahradnikova.
