Stuck Truck Idiot Spotted in Water Mill

We were saddened to learn that East Hampton Idiot Spotter—a controversial Facebook page chronicling inconsiderate and dopey people on the East End—was removed from Facebook earlier this month. But while we await the popular page’s next move and/or iteration—perhaps a website?—DansPapers.com has decided to keep their idiot-spotting torch burning (unofficially) and post some pictures of stupid people doing stupid things in the Hamptons.

Since making that announcement and sharing the bad news about EHIS, we’ve thus far captured just one fool in the wild. Hopefully we’ll get more photos to post for your morbid pleasure in these final weeks of summer—or, better yet, Idiot Spotter will return in some kind of new and improved form that isn’t vulnerable to the whims of our social media overlords.

For the moment, enjoy these pictures taken at the cut, near Flying Point Beach in Water Mill on Sunday evening. The driver of this truck apparently tried summit the massive pile of sand there, but failed to descend after his vehicle sank and got stuck at the top. He and another young man frantically dug the truck out and were eventually able to back out of the awkward jam, earning applause from a crowd of amused beach-goers.

In Idiot Spotter’s absence, however long that may be, email your photos of rude and stupid people photos@danspapers.com. Include the date and time the photo was taken, and the location. The photos must be by you. You cannot pull strangers’—or even friends’—photos off Facebook or elsewhere. We are looking for recent, never-before-published photos that are specific to the East End. Also let us know if you wish to be credited for your photo or remain anonymous. Certain identifying information and images, such as faces and license plates, may be obscured to protect the innocent—and the idiots.

We’ll also keep you updated as to the future of East Hampton Idiot Spotter, and will be happy to forward any of your photos to them as well.
