Montauk residents Julianne Moore, the actress and author, and husband Bart Freundlich, the screenwriter and director, served as honorary chairs of Saturday’s celeb-filled Diamond in the Rough gala to benefit the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation.
Andrew Suckling and Christine Iu were the evening’s honorees. Among the guests were Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, talk show host Dick Cavett and wife Martha Cavett, Suffolk County Legislator and Deputy Presiding Chair Jay Schneiderman and East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell. Nancy Atlas and her band, The Nancy Atlas Project, provided the musical entertainment.
The Montauk Playhouse Community Center includes a child day care center, an adult day care center, a senior nutrition center, a gymnasium, a playground and a fitness center. An aquatic center is planned as well as a multi-purpose cultural center for live theater, conferences, art fairs and more.
