LIMHoF to Induct Billy Joel’s Band Among Other Notable Artists
The Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) will induct its 2014 class of honorees on October 23 at the Paramount in Huntington.
Currently, Hamptonites Lou Reed, Steve Boone of the Lovin’ Spoonful, and Billy Joel are among the many past inductees. This year, Joel’s band will join the list. Joel’s band is Liberty DeVitto on drums and percussion, Doug Stegmeyer on bass guitar and backing vocals, Russell Javors on rhythm and lead guitars, harmonica and backing vocals, and Richie Cannata on keyboards, saxophones, flute, clarinet and percussion.
Also being inducted this year will be record producer and music industry executive Clive Davis, concert promoter and East Hampton resident Ron Delsener, actress and singer Patti LuPone, lyricist Gerry Goffin, record producer and remixer Steve Thompson, singer Debbie Gibson, and rapper and record producer Kurtis Blow.
LIMHoF inductees are selected by the board of directors from artists who were born, raised, founded, or have resided on Long Island (Brooklyn/Queens/Nassau/Suffolk) for a significant portion of their career. Induction is based on historical importance and the significance of their contribution to Long Island’s rich musical heritage.
“On behalf of the entire LIMHoF Board, we are very excited to honor our 5th round of inductees,” says Jeff James, chairman of LIMHoF. “We are humbled to have such support from these industry giants who have contributed so much to the music history of Long Island.”
Inductees will be honored at a star-studded red carpet award ceremony and fundraising gala at the Paramount. Scheduled performances include a musical tribute to Goffin among further surprise guests still to be announced. LIMHoF will also honor the music educator of the year, student music and non-profit scholarship recipients, and a special award paying tribute to a historic accomplishment to mark the anniversary ofJoel’s historic trip to Russia. The 2014 Harry Chapin Award will be presented to previous LIMHoF inductee DMC of Run DMC
The award ceremony will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, at The Paramount in Huntington.
