Greenport Harbor's Bug Light Beer to Support Lighthouse Restoration
This weekend at the Greenport Maritime Festival, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company will be serving up Bug Light, a special brew intended to raise money for the restoration of a historic lighthouse.
The Kolsh-style beer was brewed for the East End Seaport Museum, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company co-founder Richard Vandenburgh says. It coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Maritime Festival and will help the drive to fix up Bug Light, which was damaged in Superstorm Sandy.
The lighthouse is off Orient and has a sordid history, including being burned to the ground by vandals in 1963, 20 years after it was decommissioned. It was originally built in 1871.
Only 60 kegs of Bug Light have been produced, with limited distribution.
