East Hampton Town Police Apprehend Gunman
East Hampton Town police say a gunman was caught Friday afternoon following a shooting at a Gardiner Avenue home and a pursuit that put schools on lockdown.
One person suffered minor injuries from a shotgun blast at 85 Gardiner Avenue, police said. The gunman fled and a multi-jurisdictional search was conducted including East Hampton town and village police, the East End Town-wide Emergency Services Unit and Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Services and K-9 Units, according to authorities.
Police suspected the gunman may have fled to a Jericho Lane area residence, off Georgica Road, in East Hampton. Two tactical teams and a New York State police K-9 unit secured the home and conducted a search, though he was still mobile, authorities said.
As a precaution, all schools plus some other facilities in the search area were directed to go on lockdown.
The gunman was located driving on Abrahams Path in Amagansett. He was stopped on Springs Fireplace Road near One Stop Market and placed under arrest at 12:40 p.m.
The shotgun victim was transported to Southampton Hospital.
