Paul McCartney, Rihanna, Kanye in FourFiveSeconds Video
Amagansett rock legend Paul McCartney and Kanye West have teamed up with pop superstar Rihanna for the lead single on her hotly anticipated new album.
West previewed the trio’s song, “FourFiveSeconds,” on January 21 at the iHeartMedia Music Summit and Rihanna posted it on her official website and made it available for digital download on iTunes three days later. Rihanna quickly received rave reviews from fans and critics for her new direction, which holds to her pop roots, but includes elements from other genres such as country and folk.
Written by West, McCartney and seven other songwriters, “FourFiveSeconds” features true instrumental music, including acoustic guitar, organ and cello.
The video for their collaboration, directed by Dutch partners Inez and Vinoodh, was released this week to help sate Rihanna’s rabid fans as they await her eighth studio album. It also received critical acclaim for the directors’ pared down approach, reminiscent of work by late photographic geniuses Richard Avedon and Herb Ritts.
Rihanna will perform “FourFiveSeconds” for the first time with McCartney and West at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards this Sunday, February 8.
