Saturday Night Live Celebrates 40 Years on Sunday
Amagansett resident Lorne Michaels celebrates 40 years of his long-running hit television show, Saturday Night Live, this week. To commemorate the occasion, a live, three-hour telecast will air this Sunday, February 15, at 8 p.m. on NBC.
Special guests include Hamptons neighbors Paul McCartney, Jimmy Fallon, Chevy Chase and Alec Baldwin. They’ll be joined by Jack Nicholson, Hamptons visitor Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Emma Stone, Betty White, Derek Jeter and others.
While SNL has had hits and misses, the show is responsible for some of the most enduring and classic comedy moments of the last four decades, so it should be really fun to see its best and brightest on Sunday. To get us psyched in the lead up to the broadcast, NBC is sharing some of the show’s greatest sketches online. We’ve embedded a promo for the show below, followed by a few of our favorites sketches. You can find more SNL sketches presented year by year at nbc.com/saturday-night-live.
Of course, our local favorite, Alec Baldwin, killed it as baker Pete Schweddy on “The Delicious Dish” with this memorable “Schweddy Balls” sketch with Ana Gasteyer and Hamptons regular Molly Shannon, so let’s start here.
Who doesn’t love “Deep Thoughts” with Jack Handy?
We had to put in two, but NBC has so many more online right now, right here
“Celebrity Jeopardy” was always laugh-out-loud funny. Here’s a sketch featuring Fallon as French Stuart, along with Norm Macdonald as Burt Reynolds and Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery. Of course Will Ferrell plays his recurring role as Jeopardy host Alex Trebek.
