Alec Baldwin to Star as NYC Mayor in New HBO Series
Amagansett’s Alec Baldwin is returning to television! Wait a second… It’s not TV. It’s HBO.
Baldwin will star in a new television series as a billionaire real estate developer who becomes mayor of New York City, Deadline reports. It will be an hour-long drama on celebrity and politics. Named Joe Byrne, the character is a philanthropist, a Democrat, divorced, and pro-business.
Baldwin told Deadline that he and Cary Brokaw, who will serve as executive producer alongside Baldwin, had the idea nine years ago. But then Baldwin attached to 30 Rock, which ran for seven seasons.
The show will film in New York beginning in September, according to Deadline. Wells Tower writes and a director for the pilot is still being sought.
If the story sounds a little familiar, it may be because you remember Baldwin has mulled running for office—including for New York City mayor.
