Koch, Bloomberg, Soros and More Hamptonites Make Forbes Billionaires List
Forbes has updated its list of the world’s billionaires and, no surprise, several Hamptons residents are on it once again.
David Koch, who tied with brother Charles Koch, came in at #6 on the list, with a net worth of $42.9 billion. David owns an oceanfront estate on Southampton Village’s Meadow Lane. In 2012, Koch hosted then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney for a fundraiser, and protestors poured onto Meadow Lane for an anti-Koch and anti-Romney demonstration.
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg came in at #14 with a worth of $35.5 billion. In 2011, Bloomberg bought the 35-acre Ballyshear estate in the hamlet of Tuckahoe.
George Soros is #29 with $24.2 billion. He got engaged to Tamiko Bolton at his Hamptons home in 2012.
Ronald Perelman is #69 at $14.5 billion. He has a 57-acre estate in East Hampton named The Creeks.
Hedge fund manager David Tepper, who famously bought a Sagaponack estate for $43.5 million in 2011 and promptly tore in down to replace it, ranked at #121 at $10.4 billion. Last year he was ranked at #122.
Ralph Lauren, with $7 billion, ranks at #193. Last year he was #191.
Ira Rennert, who owns Fairfield, a Sagaponack compound said to be the largest occupied single-family residence in the U.S., ranks at #240 with $6.1 billion. He’s been in the news lately after a court ordered him and his company to fork over $118 million.
Film director and producer Steven Spielberg, of East Hampton, ranks #481 with $3.6 billion
Mort Zuckerman, the publisher of New York Daily News and U.S. News & World Report, also of East Hampton, ranks #714 with $2.6 billion. Last year he ranked #731 with $2.4 billion.
