Amy Zerner's Fashion Sense: Exotic Motifs
Get into an ethnic, tribal beat. Whether it’s brightly swirling, colored batik, ikat fabrics or prints from Bali, spring/summer styles are heading into the wild.
The term “tribal” in fashion can mean anything from color-blocking to abstract prints to tie-dye to create a cool, ethnic edge. Tribal fashion includes handwoven textiles, bold prints and beaded accessories.
These tribal looks have been a big influence all over the fashion world with vibrant prints, warm tones and rich details. Many designers are concentrating on these looks, along with some dramatic accessories to give you a wild and exotic style.
Oversized, strong prints work well on simple shapes. Be influenced by far-off lands, adopting exotic embellishments, nomadic layering, rich embroidery, artisan jewelry, dramatic draping and graphic prints. Weave a mix of ideas into a cross-cultural patchwork that embraces patterned motifs and embroideries inspired by ancient cultures.
Strong earth tones and black, browns, deep reds and oranges, along with natural accents such as straw and wood, set off the look beautifully.
You can either layer and embellish or just go for a well-cut little item in an ikat print. Tribal print clothes and accessories are fun and trendy.
