Guilty Pleasure Recap: The Bachelorette, Season 11, Episode 1, Part 2
Pre Show
On night one of ABC’s The Bachelorette Season 11 premiere, the American public is left with a cliffhanger. Chris Harrison stalks over to the men and announces, “Your new bachelorette is…” —blackout!
Wait a minute! I thought the new bachelorette was supposed to be announced by the end of the first evening. Oh, you cagey producers—there’s nothing like milking it so you get an even a larger audience for the premiere’s second night.
Today has been like the Belmont Stakes, everyone is betting on the sure winner. But who is the sure winner? Is it Kaitlyn, the witty, intelligent, attractive brunette, or Britt, the flashy, weepy, social blonde. If this was central casting, these two would make perfect foils. The stereotypical blonde/brunette conflict.
Almost 8 p.m., time for the big reveal!
Show Time
Well, we certainly didn’t have to wait too long for the ballots to be counted. Chris Harrison confronts Britt and says, “Unfortunately you’re not going to be the bachelorette.” It was as simple as that. Chris stuffs Britt and her white, wedding-style gown into the limo, shuts the door and off she goes into reality TV oblivion.
No surprise here.
Close up on Britt in the limo rambling on, tears streaming. This girl really knows how to cry. I’ll give her that much.
Cut to Chris Harrison giving Kaitlyn the happy news—she is the new bachelorette. Her first response, “I want to throw up.”
I perfectly understand, if this lot was assembled for me, I would want to throw up too. (Check my take on these guys in our night one recap.)
I hope a prince does rise above all these paupers and makes it worthwhile for Kaitlyn.
Now Kaitlyn must prepare for the first rose ceremony, and decide who gets the first-impression rose, which is an immediate save. Some guys stumble over each other for Kaitlyn’s attention, while the Britt hopefuls appear openly disappointed. “Should I stay or should I go?” is the sentiment of a few. Who knows, maybe Chris Harrison can slip the Britt boys her phone number. Why not?
The first-impression rose goes to Shawn. Good choice, Kaitlyn. He was into you right from the start.
Tables have now turned. We reach the rose ceremony and now Kaitlyn has all the control.
But wait—drama! Brady interrupts the proceedings, asks to speak to Kaitlyn outside, and confesses how much he cared for Britt and leaves. He’s off to find his true love, Britt. Maybe there is something to being the runner up. After all, if it works out, so much the better. Britt doesn’t have to go through 11 episodes trying to find love.
The Big Problem: Kaitlyn doesn’t know which guys voted to keep Britt, so some of her choices are actually Britt boys. When the dust settles, the guys who voted for Kaitlyn, but didn’t wind up with a rose are really upset.

Looks like this is shaping up to be quite a season. Oh, Kaitlyn, for a smart girl you are making some bad decisions.
