Kent Animal Shelter Offers Free Pets for Veterans Through June
Dotti Donaldson, a Vietnam veteran’s wife, is matching the 50% off discount toward adoption fees on adult pets for veterans through June at Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton.
The Kent Animal Shelter was initially offering veterans half off through May, calling the program Paws for Patriots. In honor of Fred Vanderwerven, Donaldson’s veteran husband, the shelter is extending the Paws for Patriots promotion through June, and Donaldson is generously donating the other 50% for veterans to be able to have a furry friend for free.
“This promotion is to show appreciation to veterans for their service and to give them and shelter pets the gift of compassion,”Kent Animal Shelter Executive Director Pamela Green says.
The Paws for Patriots program is meant to boost returning vets and at the same time offer homeless animals a second chance at love and companionship.
“Dotti Donaldson’s matching donation for every veteran who would like to adopt an adult pet is a wonderful gift that honors her husband and veterans in a very special way,” Green says.
The Kent Animal Shelter provides a no-kill haven for homeless animals, adoption services, a spay/neuter clinic and humane education.
All adopted pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. For more information call Kent Animal Shelter at 631-727-5731 or visit kentanimalshelter.com.
