ARF Garden Tour Goes Behind the Hedges in Southampton June 20
Enjoy the last day of spring outdoors while supporting animals this June at the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons 29th annual Garden Tour.
The garden tour, tagged “Celebrating the Village of Southampton,” will be held on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. As one of the longest running garden tours on Long Island, it will include six elegant gardens located in historic Southampton Village.
The event will feature private tours of the garden of Katharina Otto-Bernstein and Nathan Bernstein, The Fairwind Garden, the garden of Anke and Juergen Friedrich, the garden of Ashley and Jeff McDermott, the garden of Irene and Bernard Schwartz, and the garden of Margaret and R. Peter Sullivan.
Each garden is unique in nature and greenery and there is sure to be a design that captures everyone’s fancy. The Bernstein garden will serve free refreshments throughout the day in its cheerful environment surrounded by vividly colored flowers. The Fairwind will feature majestic views of the property while focusing on tree design. Located on a grand 10 acres, the Friedrich’s garden evokes the classic estates of the 20th century. It features stately evergreens, copper beeches, lindens, elms and Japanese maples. Be sure to check out the rose garden at the Mcdermonts’ estate, which features individual rooms that create a gorgeous visual aesthetic. The Sullivans’ garden is a formal American-style garden with a modern interpretation. The fantastic orchid of nine mature apple trees will take center stage at the garden of Irene and Bernard Schwartz.
The ARF Garden Tour is self-guided and ticket holders can view the gardens in any order. A cocktail reception immediately follows at Blue Haven, the home of Lisa and Donald Jackson.
Tickets for the tour are $85 each. Call 631-537-0400 extension 219 or visit arfhamptons.org.
