New Flanders Road Traffic Lights Expected in 2016
The New York State Department of Transportation anticipates to begin the construction of two new traffic signals along State Route 24/Flanders Road, where it intersects with Oak Avenue and Longneck Boulevard, before the end of 2015, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. of Sag Harbor Sag Harbor announced this week.
According to the Department of Transportation, the traffic signals are currently being designed, and depending on the complexity of final design and potential utility or property conflicts, they expect the traffic signals to be operational in late spring/early summer 2016.
These two traffic signals were identified as recommendations in the Department of Transportation’s Flanders Road Traffic Study, a study Thiele had worked on with officials from the Department of Transportation, Town of Southampton, and members of the Flanders, Riverside & Northampton Community Association (FRNCA) to address ongoing road and traffic safety concerns on the roadway.
