Five Rehabilitated Sea Turtles to Be Released in Hampton Bays
On Friday, the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research & Preservation will release a group of rehabilitated sea turtles back into the wild.
The five successfully rehabilitated turtles include one loggerhead sea turtle, named Hulk, and four Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, given the names Red Arrow, Storm, Rouge and The Riddler. Hulk had been struck by a boat and was found with fishing line caught in his mouth. The others were rescued in November 2014 when they were found cold stunned. Now all five are fit enough to be returned to their marine ecosystem due to the warm temperatures and favorable weather conditions.
The sea turtle release is scheduled for 7 p.m. near Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays.
To arrive at the release station for the special occasion, cross over the Ponquogue Bridge toward Dune Road, make a left at the traffic light and another quick left after that. Once on this road, drive all the way to the end.
