Montauk Parking Ban Being Considered
A public hearing on a possible parking ban in Montauk on Edgemere Street is scheduled for August 6 at East Hampton Town Hall.
The possible parking restriction, which would ban vehicles from parking at the Edgemere/Elwell Street intersection, is one of several steps being considered to curb the ever-growing party scene in downtown Montauk. Parking is currently restricted on the east side of Edgemere Street, but allowed on the west side. Previous reports that a new parking ban was already implemented have been confirmed by DansPapers.com to be false.
Montauk hotspots such as The Surf Lodge and Sloppy Tuna attract many revelers during the summer. Montauk residents met on July 14 at the Montauk Fire Department to address concerns about the rowdy nightlife in Montauk, mentioning safety issues and the dangers of the area becoming known as a party town as opposed to a quite fishing village.
