New Faces Enter GrillHampton Winners' Circle
GrillHampton, presented by Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, culminated Friday night in Bridgehampton with the announcement of the newly minted champions of the most competitive grill-off on Long Island.
Eight New York City chefs and eight Hamptons chefs faced off in the third annual culinary competition and tasting event, which kicked off Dan’s Taste of Summer, the premier food and wine events on the East End.
Chef Joe Isidori of Manhattan’s Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer won the Blue Moon People’s Choice Award, unseating two-time people’s pick David Herch of Rumba. Isidori pulled out all the stops, offering the Black Tap Kobe Beef Burger served with Mexican grilled corn. The Kobe-style beef burger was topped with aged blue cheese, baby arugula and organic buttermilk-dill dressing and paired with grilled corn made with Mexican chipotle, fresh cilantro and queso fresco.
Taking the Dan’s GrillHampton Judges Award was newcomer Jason Kallert from the Beach Club at Gurney’s. Kallert prepared his Charcoal Smoked Short Rib Sandwich served with fresh pickled cucumber and shallots, charred jalapeno vinegar BBQ sauce and charred baby leeks.
The Pat Lafrieda Team award, which was won by Team NYC in 2014, changed hands Friday, going to Team Hamptons. The crowd roared for the home team as the winner was announced.
