Planning a Day Trip to Montauk
Are you planning on taking a trek out to Montauk with your family or friends for the day/evening but don’t know what to do once you get there? We’re here to help! Here are a few suggestions that will give you a nice, full experience at “The End” of the island.
Start at The Lobster Roll Restaurant
Okay, it’s technically in Amagansett, but The Lobster Roll is an iconic staple of the East End and is considered by many to be the beginning of Montauk. Also known as “Lunch” thanks to its large, recognizable sign, The Lobster Roll serves up a famous lobster salad. The Lobster Roll is open daily from 11:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m. and is located at 1980 Montauk Highway, Amagansett. lobsterroll.com
Charter a Fishing Boat
Live out your fisherman dreams and charter your own boat for a fun adventure on the water. There are plenty of options throughout Montauk, including Adios Charters, American Beauty Cruises, Blue Crush Charters, Montauk Fishing Charters and more. Check out DansBOTB.com for a list of great charter boat services.
Peruse the Shops at Gosman’s Dock
Gosman’s Dock is full of fun shops with a variety of friendly shops. Find kitschy, cute trinkets and furniture at Homeport, men and women’s clothing at Pier Group and Shine, artisanal toys and souvenirs at Captain Kid Toys and more. Gosman’s Dock is located at the end of West Lake Drive. mymontauk.com
Take a Tour of Montauk Point Lighthouse
This is a great idea if you have kids with you. The historic Montauk Point Lighthouse is open for walking tours all summer and is one of the East End’s greatest treasures. There will be a special Lighthouse Weekend from August 15–August 16. The lighthouse is open daily through the summer and is located at 2000 Montauk Highway. montauklighthouse.com
Dine at Gosman’s Restaurant
Overlooking the water, Gosman’s Restaurant has something for everyone. It’s kid-friendly, has a great seafood menu, fabulous drinks and desserts and is great for larger groups and parties. Gosman’s is currently open all week, from noon–10 p.m. at 500 West Lake Drive. gosmans.com
