Red Hot Chili Peppers Drummer Chad Smith Rocks Surf Lodge
Nancy Atlas’s set at the Surf Lodge in Montauk last night was again oh-so-rudely interrupted by Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He jumped on stage and took the drum kit for a wild ride. Spectators voiced their objections with cat calls and danced madly. Atlas called Dan’s Papers own Daniel Koontz to the stage to try to quell the uproar but Koontz ripped into the keyboard and there was no looking back. And the band played on…jamming out Santana’s “Oye Como Va,” Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle,” “Honky Tonk Woman” just like the Rolling Stones, Roddy Stewart’s “Stay With Me,” and the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses.” Hundreds of people dancing on a deck on the shore of Fort Pond cannot be wrong—it was outrageous! Innocent drumsticks may have been killed to create this scene.
