Scarlett Johansson Stars in 'The Jungle Book'
Hamptonites are already slated for roles, including that of director—see Steven Spielberg‘s The BFG—in some major films in 2016.
Amagansett homeowner Scarlett Johansson stars in the new Walt Disney Pictures film The Jungle Book, opening April 15, 2016. A live-action remake of Disney’s 1967 animated film, The Jungle Book features an all-star cast including Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Christopher Walken, Lupita Nyong’o, Giancarlo Esposito and, of course, Johansson.
The Jungle Book, based on the book by Rudyard Kipling, tells the story of Mowgli, a little boy who is raised by kind jungle animals. When an evil tiger comes to the jungle, Mowgli’s animal family wants him to leave the jungle for his own safety. Classic songs from the animated film, such as “Bare Necessities,” will be included in the remake. Johansson, who plays the dishonest python Kaa, will sing “Trust in Me.”
The original animated feature was the last film produced by Walt Disney, who died during production. The new film is directed by Jon Favreau, known for directing Marvel’s Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Cowboys & Aliens, Elf, Zathura and Chef. The Jungle Book is the latest in a line of live-action Disney remakes, following the success of Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and Maleficent (which is heavily inspired by the 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty). Other remakes are in development, including Pete’s Dragon, which hits theaters on August 12, 2016 and Beauty and the Beast in 2017.
