Amagansett resident and actress Naomi Watts attended a special screening of her new movie, Demolition, at SVA Theatre in New York City on Monday. The star-studded affair was followed by an after party hosted by Fox Searchlight Pictures and The Cinema Society at Standard Hotel’s opulent penthouse lounge, Top of the Standard.
Fellow Hamptonites Jon Bon Jovi and Roger Waters were also in attendance, along with Watts’ Demolition costar Jake Gyllenhaal and cast members Chris Cooper, Heather Lind, Polly Draper and Judah Lewis. Other notable guests included Helena Christensen, Julian Sands and record biz legend Clive Davis.
Directed by Academy Award Nominee Jean-Marc Valee (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild), Demolition tells the story of investment banker Davis Mitchell (Gyllenhaal) who begins to unravel after his wife Julia (Lind) dies in a car accident. In his grief, or troubling lack of grief, Davis begins writing complaint letters to a vending machine company. His letters eventually become a diary of his grief, full of personal admissions and revealing thoughts, which leads a customer service rep with troubles of her own, Karen Moreno (Watts), to call him. The two form a relationship and with help from Karen and her son, Davis begins to rebuild his life. That process begins with tearing down, literally, the vestiges of his past.
Demolition opens in theaters across the country on Friday, April 8, 2016. Watch the trailer below.
