Stony Brook Seawolves Play Wildcats in NCAA Tourney Tonight
Long Islanders, the wait is over! Our hometown Stony Brook Seawolves are making their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance TONIGHT against the No. 4 seeded Kentucky Wildcats.
A No. 13 seed like Stony Brook beating a No. 4 seed would make for a Cinderella story. What needs to occur to bring the “W” to Eastern Long Island? Defense, something SBU has excelled at all season long. The Seawolves have allowed just 63.4 points per game, a worthy number that puts them at 19th in the country. For perspective, there are 68 teams in the NCAA tournament.
The Wildcats will play with a vengeance. A national powerhouse, they appeared in the Final Four last year; and they were National Champs just four years ago, in 2012. Though there has been some turnover, the constant has been in seasoned coach John Calipari, who is making his 15th NCAA appearance tonight.
Kentucky secured their birth in the tournament when they were named the SEC Champion; and Stony Brook entered the tournament when they beat Vermont in the America East Tournament.
The two square off at 9:40 p.m. ET at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Seawolves Nation can find the game on CBS; or at one of Dan’s Best of the Best bars. The duo are playing in the first round of the “East” region, with the winner going on to play the winner of the No. 5 Indiana and No. 12 Chattanooga game.
