Greenport Harbor Brewing Company Presents “Cultivated Realities”
On Saturday, June 11, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company will be hosting a public reception for their new exhibition Cultivated Realities at their Greenport tasting room.
The show brings together two unique artists, Corey Solinger and Katie Grove, who draw inspiration from the natural world while also incorporating natural elements into their pieces.
Solinger, a native of Mattituck, creates whimsical landscapes and scenes with a storybook quality. Solinger’s paintings feature stark contrasts of bright, vibrant colors residing over bleak, sometimes nightmarish backdrops.
This isn’t the first time Solinger’s work has been presented at the Greenport Harbor Brewing Company gallery. Her assemblage, Beach Goers, which consisted of skate eggs with bright garments painted on, was on display last fall as part of the Hops for Habitat exhibition.
Hailing from the Hudson Valley, Grove’s work depicts the environment native to her home, her pieces focused on native wildlife or featuring found objects from nature. She works in a variety of mediums such as watercolors, silkscreens and fibers, creating embroideries and quilts that match the tone and colors one associates with Upstate New York.
Her latest series, “Great Migrations,” features the exploration of an abandoned house, the land it resides on and the objects found inside, creating a catalogue of rustic artifacts kept in jars and a meditation on people relationship with the natural world they choose to coexist with.
The Cultivated Realities reception will be held on June 11, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Greenport Harbor Brewing Company in Greenport, 234 Carpenter Street. The exhibition will be on display until July 31. More information on the artists and photos of their catalogues can be found at katiegrove.net and coreysolinger.com.
