Gloria Steinem Supports The Retreat at Guild Hall

On August 9 at Guild Hall, iconic feminist, journalist and political activist Gloria Steinem will appear at a fundraiser for The Retreat, a nonprofit that provides shelter and support for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The Thunderbird Sisters of the Shinnecock Nation will perform songs before Steinem takes the stage where she’ll talk about her life experience and organizing across boundaries for peace and justice.
The Retreat’s Executive Director Loretta K. Davis said in a press release:
“We are honored and thrilled to have Gloria Steinem as our guest speaker at Guild Hall. Ms. Steinem is a champion of equal right and civil rights, not only for women but for all individuals worldwide.”
Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased by calling 866-811-4111 or visiting www.theretreatinc.org. Benefactors start at $500 and will include a private reception following the engagement. For more information, or to become a benefactor, please call The Retreat at 631-329-4298.
To break the cycle of family violence, The Retreat offers prevention education programs to children of all ages. In addition, The Retreat operates other innovative prevention programs, such as the Suffolk County Fatherhood Initiative, which helps economically struggling parents, who have not abused, to identify personal strengths to help them develop healthy relationship skills with their partners, improve parent capabilities and connection with their children, and work toward economic stability.
