Momi Ramen Hosts Ramen Celebration with Chef Ivan Orkin

On Thursday, July 21, East Hampton’s Momi Ramen is teaming up with Chef Ivan Orkin of Tokyo and NYC’s Ivan Ramen and Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop for Ramen Celebration, a night of Japanese-inspired cuisine.
Celebrating Orkin’s debut on the South Fork, the evening highlights some of the Hamptons’ best ramen offerings. As Saturday’s Dan’s Taste of Two Forks, presented by Farrell Building Company, quickly approaches, Thursday night’s meal will offer a sneak preview of what Momi Ramen will have to offer at the Dan’s Taste of Summer event.
Momi Ramen owner/manager Anita Chen says she traveled around Japan looking for ways to perfect her ramen. “The simplicity of using the finest ingredients that are local, or flown in from Japan, to create authentic Japanese ramen and traditional Izakaya food is our mission,” she said in a recent Dan’s Papers interview.
Though Chen has different delights in store for Taste of Two Forks, she will serve her favorite dish, Tan Tan Ramen (illustrate at top of page), at Thursday’s event. Containing an amalgamation of garlic-and-pepper-marinated minced pork, bamboo shoots, soft-boiled egg, scallions, shimeji mushrooms and house-made noodles, Tan Tan Ramen is “spicy enough that you will be slurping for more until the last drop of Tonkotsu broth,” Chen says.
At Taste of Two Forks on Saturday, July 23, Chen and her Momi Ramen staff are serving Chilled Yasai Ramen with Charred Scallions, a delicious dish featuring grilled organic zucchini and yellow squash from Bhumi Farm, eggplant caviar and crispy taro with a yuzu soy dressing.
“One of our goals is to create fresh, innovative and healthy foods, which is why we never use MSG, sugars and butters. My mother would approve of our entire menu!” Chen says, noting that all of Momi Ramen’s dishes are made of fresh, natural ingredients.
Try Orkin’s contributions, along with the regular menu, from 5–11 p.m.
