Shop 'Til You Drop: Fantastic Finds Off the Beaten Path
Midsummer is the height of our shopping season, and with all the possibilities it can be a bit overwhelming. There are only so many shift dresses, photo-print tees and swim shorts we can look at before they start to blend together. This week let’s get away from the typical and find some unique shopping opportunities. There are tons of stand-out items and weirdly wonderful shopping events to look forward to. Check them out!
On Sunday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mattituck-Cutchogue High School, explore the wonders of the Earth with the Long Island Mineral & Geology Society at their annual Gem Show. It’s an event for all ages. For sale will be fine jewelry, gems, fossils, and geode cracking for the kids (and the adults. Let’s be honest, no one gets tired of geode cracking.) Mattituck Cutchogue high School is located at 15125 Main Road, Mattituck. Visit limineralandgeology.com to find out more.
East Hampton will be hosting a Pop-Up Comic Extravaganza August 7, so if you’ve been looking for a chance to indulge your nerdy side, this is the day! The event will be packed with professional comic book creators, as well as vendors selling artwork and collectibles. Head over to 111 Cove Hollow Road in East Hampton from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Find East Hampton Comic Con on Facebook for more information.
David “Mushroom Man” Falkowski says, “All the fun stuff is happening now!” at his newly expanded farmstand at 720 Butter Lane in Bridgehampton. In addition to his own organic veggies and mushrooms, he says you’ll now find “the best products cherry-picked from my [farmer] friends.” Plus you’ll find fresh squeezed juices and fire roasted shishito peppers. Talk about things you didn’t know you needed! Flashys are light-up sneakers for adults. Yes, that’s right. You know you want them. You’re pretending that they’ll keep you safe when you jog at night. They might, but really, you just want to walk around in light-up shoes. They arrive charged and ready to go. Each shoe has a rainbow of colors to choose from, and different options for solid or flashing displays. Just power them up through a mini USB after a fun night on the town. Find them at flashys.com
