Dan's Harvest East End Countdown: 'My Perfect Pantry' Highlights
Dan’s Harvest East End, the final Dan’s Taste of Summer event this summer, will go out with a bang! Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian will be holding an exclusive VIP book signing at Saturday’s event for his new cookbook, My Perfect Pantry.
Zakarian’s cookbook is unlike any other. Instead of organizing his recipes by meal times (breakfast, lunch, dinner), Zakarian organizes his recipes by featured ingredients. Each chapter is a different ingredient followed by recipes that center around that ingredient. Some of the ingredients used in dishes may seem unusual, but Zakarian’s creativity provides for some of the most delicious recipes. Check out five of the most unusual and unique recipes straight out of Zakarian’s cookbook and don’t forget to buy your VIP tickets to Dan’s Harvest East End on Saturday, August 20.
Grilled Maple-Mustard Chicken Skewers
This interesting recipe contains an interesting mélange of ingredients such as mustard, maple syrup, Greek yogurt and chicken. Although this sounds like a strange mix, the Chopped judge knows what he is doing when it comes to mixing a variety of foods.
Pork Adobo with Coconut
The unofficial national dish in the Philippines, Adobo is a popular mix of meat, seafood and vegetables that is marinated in white vinegar. Inspired by a Filipina friend who used to make the traditional dish for special occasions, Zakarian decided to put his own spin on her dish. Using cider vinegar, coconut milk, ginger and ribs Zakarian makes a sweeter alternative to this traditional dish.
Peanut Brittle Ice Cream
Zakarian takes ice cream to the next level with his homemade recipe. This recipe is a great rainy day activity for the family. All the cookbook calls for is the essential baking items, heavy cream and of course, peanuts and peanut butter. This ice cream is great for a peanut butter lover. You do have to have an ice cream maker to carry on with this recipe.
Pomegranate-Ginger Sweet Potatoes with Pecans and Pumpkin Seeds
Containing nuts and spices, the recipe is perfect for any fall day and even Thanksgiving. This unique side dish contains pomegranate juice, ginger and pumpkin seeds that bring out the sweetness in the sweet potatoes. With fall right around the corner, be prepared to stir up these robust sweet potatoes.
Popcorn Soup
The classic way to eat popcorn is out of a large bucket at a movie theater. Popcorn is known for its crunchiness, but what would happen if you can get the taste of popcorn without crunching? Popcorn Soup might sound funny, but Zakarian makes this dish as tasteful as it could be. Popcorn soup does not require many ingredients, but it does require some skill to strain the kernels.
