Dan's Taste of Summer: North Fork Food Trucks Ring in the Harvest
Food trucks are big and getting bigger. It seems like each summer offers up a new batch of tasty mobile delights—not that we’re complaining. And these trucks are serving more than just burgers and fries: s’mores pie from The Little Blonde Truck, barbecue duck sliders from noah’s on the Road, a kimchee sauerkraut hot dog (if you’re feeling adventurous) from the Vine Street Café (VSC) food truck, and even cocktails, as in the case of The BAR Truck. Some of the parent restaurants of these moveable feasts, like The North Fork Food Truck and Whole Le Crepe, will be at Dan’s Harvest East End, the can’t-miss food and wine classic, hosted by Geoffrey Zakarian on Saturday, August 20, at McCall Vineyard and Ranch in Cutchogue. Check out our list to see what food trucks are popping this summer!
In addition to The Little Blonde Truck’s sweet baked goods, which include a notable s’mores pie, they also makes a mean grilled cheese, mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, waffles made to order, quinoa salad and, new this summer, an acai bowl. Find out more at blondiesbakeshop.com.
Housed in a silver Airstream trailer, noah’s on the Road, from noah’s in Greenport, offers signature gourmet meals such as Crescent Farm barbeque duck sliders and glazed pork tacos. You can find noah’s on the Road at most Wine Down Wednesdays at Martha Clara Vineyards, who’ll be serving their delectable wine at Dan’s Harvest East End. The North Fork Food Truck serves comfort food such as Artisan Hot Dogs, the North Fork-Style Berkshire Pulled Pork Roll and a grass-fed beef strip loin sandwich. Catering is available within a 25-mile travel radius from Southold. All this summer you can find The North Fork Food Truck at The North Fork Table & Inn, whose chef Stephan Bogardus will be cooking up at storm at Dan’s Harvest East End. Rolling in Dough serves wood-fired thin-crust pizza and Satur Farms salad at private events all across the East End. Should you be lucky enough to attend one of these events, you’ll have the opportunity to customize your pie with toppings that include caramelized onions, fresh corn (in season) or spicy fennel sausage. Visit rollingindoughpizza.com for more information. The BAR Truck is run by the same people as Rolling in Dough, but exclusively offers top shelf craft cocktails and other beverages. Check out their website, thebartrucks.com, to learn more, or call 631-600-3221.
Billed as Shelter Island’s first food truck, the orange van parked outside Vine Street Café at 41 Ferry Road serves a fabulous and affordable lunch menu featuring classics like lobster rolls and all beef hot dogs on homemade brioche buns. Other items are the Crispy Clam Roll, the BC Burger, Chicken or Shrimp Guac Dog, Firecracker Wings and Cali Chicken Sando. You can also find pulled pork and chicken salad, or a kimchee sauerkraut hot dog if you’re feeling adventurous. The VSC Food Truck is open seven days a week during the summer from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Whole le Crepe is a North Fork food truck and caterer that offers many varieties of this fine French delicacy. Breakfast crepes are made to order—if you can decide which toppings you want, that is: scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, melted cheese and fresh spinach are just some of the options. Or you can go sweet with fresh strawberries, powdered sugar, whipped cream or caramel drizzle. Chef Tina Paola will be serving some of her sweet and savory delights at Dan’s Harvest East End. For more information, and to see the schedule of where the truck will be, visit wholelecrepe.com or call 631-255-6055.
