Shop 'Til You Drop: Change of Season Brings Sales and Oddities
A rare and intriguing item has come up for auction in California: Late Sagaponack resident Truman Capote’s ashes. The ashes are contained in a 3×4 inch cardboard box, which is then nested, matryoshka style, within a lovely Japanese wooden box. It’s a perfect addition to your bookshelf or side table, if you’re into that sort of thing. Apparently, the sale of human remains isn’t illegal. In fact, Julien’s Auctions, the company responsible for the sale, made news a few years back for selling William Shatner’s kidney stone. Capote’s ashes are expected to garner about $6,000 during the auction, which will be held on September 23 and 24. Visit juliensauctions.com to find out more.

OFF THE BLOCK
St. Anne’s thrift store in Bridgehampton has closed permanently. The building is to once again serve as St. Anne’s rectory. The shop that offered so many designer clothes at discount prices and was the best source for second-hand Stubbs & Wooten slippers will be much missed. All the shop’s customers bid a heartfelt farewell to its beloved manager Eve. She always had a kind (bilingual) word for everyone shopping there.
Email shoptilyou@DansPapers.com with shopping news, including sales, new inventory, openings, closings and events.
