"The Candidate" Screens at Southampton Arts Center
Southampton Arts Center continues its Free Friday Night Outdoor Screenings with The Candidate on Friday, August 5, presented in partnership with Hamptons International Film Festival and sponsored by Dan’s Papers.
Robert Redford stars as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in this cynical 1972 political drama that explores the manipulations of media-age political campaigns. This satirical comedy/drama also stars late Hamptonite Peter Boyle, and was directed by Michael Ritchie (Bad News Bears, Fletch). The screenplay, which was written by Jeremy Larner—a speechwriter for Senator Eugene J. McCarthy during McCarthy’s 1968 run for the Democratic presidential nomination—earned an Academy Award. It’s a perfect film for this heated election season. Rated PG.
The screening take places on the grounds of the Southampton Arts Center at 25 Jobs Lane in Southampton Village. Bring a blanket or beach chairs and picnic on the lawn!
Guests can elect to join in a round of “Candidate” trivia prior to the film, so bone up before you go.
Approximate start time: 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 5.
