Gary Belsky to Appear at Bridgehampton Road Rally and Tour d'Hamptons
Acclaimed writer and editor Gary Belsky will appear at the Bridgehampton Road Rally and Tour d’Hamptons on Saturday, October 1, to talk about his award-winning career in journalism, share behind-the-scenes stories from his decade at ESPN, and to sign his new book, On The Origins of Sports: The Early History and Original Rules of Everybody’s Favorite Games .
Belsky is the former editor in chief of ESPN The Magazine and espn.com/insider. A seasoned commentator on sports, sports culture, sports media and sports business, Belsky was for several years the co-host of a weekly sports show on SiriusXM, and has appeared on a variety of media platforms, including CNN, E! and NPR. Before joining ESPN—where he created the company’s franchise “Body Issue”—Belsky was a writer at Money magazine and a reporter for Crain’s New York Business and the St. Louis Business Journal. He was a regular contributor to CNN’s Your Money and ABC’s Good Morning America, as well as a frequent guest on Oprah, Inside Edition, CBS This Morning and many other programs. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, New York, Sports Illustrated, Mental Floss and more.
In 1990, Belsky won the Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism. A longtime resident of Manhattan, he serves on the board of directors of Urban Pathways, one of New York’s largest providers of services to the homeless; the New York Neo-Futurists, an award-winning theater company; and the Leadership Council of the Pierre Laclede Honors College at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, his alma mater.
On The Origins of Sports: The Early History and Original Rules of Everybody’s Favorite Games gives a detailed history and overview of 21 different sports, from baseball and cricket to wiffle ball and even fantasy football.
