Teasers Released for Scarlett Johansson's 'Ghost in the Shell'

Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks have released several short teasers for its upcoming adaptation of the Japanese media franchise Ghost in the Shell, starring Hamptonite Scarlett Johansson.

Ghost in the Shell follows the Major (Johansson), a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

The film came into some controversy when Johansson was cast in the lead role, due to the character being Japanese in most versions of the story. It appears that the source material has been adapted and rewritten to accommodate the casting of Johansson, as well as other actors, including Michael Pitt and Juliette Binoche.

Directed by Rupert Sanders, Ghost in the Shell opens on March 31, 2017. Check out the cryptic, viral-style video teasers below.
