All Treats, No Tricks in Dan's Best of the Best 2016 Bakeries
When you outgrow trick-or-treating, Halloween fun doesn’t have to end. Who doesn’t love costume parties and other celebrations? Perhaps you have a party to attend tonight (even though it’s Monday!) and are supposed to bring something like cookies or cake. Try checking out one of the 2016 Dan’s Best of the Best South Fork bakery winners for something that’ll hit the spot.

This year’s platinum winner, Citarella (various locations; 631-283-6600, citarella.com), has tarts of all kinds, cakes, assorted handmade cookies, brownies, biscotti, lots of different flavors of pie, tiramisu, rice pudding, bread pudding, chocolate mousse, croissants, scones, muffins and more. Citarella is also a full-fledged gourmet grocery.
The Golden Pear Cafe (various locations; 631-283-8900, goldenpearcafe.com), our gold winner, has muffins, croissants, cinnamon buns, danishes, scones, brownies and blondies, loaf cakes, rugelach, bagels and more. The Golden Pear also offers delicious chai tea and coffee, as well as breakfast and lunch.
Silver winner Krieg’s Bakery (39 West Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays; 631-728-6524, kriegsbakery.com) was established in 1985 and likens itself to “Grandma’s bakery.” Their danishes, fruit tarts, bread, stollen, cakes, pies, gingerbread houses, cookies all have natural ingredients. This mom-and-pop-style shop is not to be missed.
Tied for bronze are Hamptons staples Tate’s Bake Shop and Blue Duck Bakery. Tate’s Bake Shop (43 North Sea Road, Southampton; 631-283-9830, tatesbakeshop.com) is world famous for its crispy, thin cookies. Blue Duck Bakery (various locations; 631-204-1701, blueduckbakery.com), has various offerings, from cakes to cookies to cupcakes, as well as sandwiches and coffee.
