Halloween Family Fun in the Hamptons
Time to get spooked! Halloween is coming to the East End, bringing with it frighteningly festive activities for you and your family. Travel back in time to attend an 1860s funeral. Dare yourself to brave Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse. Or check out a exhibit of works by cartoonist Charles Addams, creator of The Addams Family. Here are just a few of the many ghoulish offerings:
Forever Bungalows
From Friday, October 28 to Monday, October 31, Forever Bungalows presents The Haunted Bungalows. Appropriate for all ages, entry is free from noon until 6 p.m. Each visit is also a chance to win a free two-night stay between November 2016 and March 2017. Gateway Playhouse
A fright-fest not for the faint-of-heart, Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse is consistently rated one of Long Island’s top haunted houses. It features a full 30 minutes of scares that are sure to give you goosebumps! You can also enjoy the midway area, featuring concessions, games, and “special spooky visitors.” The Haunted Playhouse is recommended for ages 12 and up. For the littler ones, Gateway offers Kids Adventures that will bring smiles as a cheerful guide leads groups through a well-lit tour filled with fun characters. Also for the kids: face painting, a pumpkin bouncer and more—great for ages 10 and up. Costumes are encouraged. The Kids Adventure takes place on Saturdays and Sundays through November 1. Little Lucy’s
“Halloweenies” of all ages, and species, are invited to participate in Little Lucy’s annual Halloween Pet Parade at 91 Jobs Lane in Southampton. Line up by 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 29. Merchants raffle prizes, treats for people and pets, and Beau Hulse sings Sinatra tunes! Best Costume Awards by Little Lucy’s, and meet available dogs from the local shelter. $10 fee benefits the Southampton Animal Shelter. Call 631-287-2352 for rain date.
Montauk Lighthouse
On Saturday, October 29, and Sunday, October 30, Camp SoulGrow and the Montauk Lighthouse will present Haunted House at the Lighthouse, from 3–7 p.m. The event’s $5 admission fee will help to support Camp SoulGrow and the Montauk Lighthouse. Southampton Arts Center
The Spooktacular Haunted House boasts seven rooms of horror, featuring monsters under the bed, an evil butcher, zombies and more! Lights will be kept on for the first hour for families with young children. Thursday, October 27 to Monday, October 31. Times vary. For ages 8 and up, $5 at the door. Presented by the Tee and Charles Adams Foundation, Chas Addams: Family and Friends is an iconic exhibition of works by famed New Yorker cartoonist Charles Addams, who was an East End resident until his death in 1988. This delightful exhibition, which is back by popular demand after being mounted in 2013 during the Southampton Arts Center’s inaugural season, encompasses more than 50 original works covering a broad range of subject matter, including The Addams Family cartoons, on which the television series and feature films were based. Chas Addams: Family and Friends runs through October 31. Admission is free!
On Friday, October 28, there will be a screening of the supernatural horror classic Poltergeist. The price of admission is $8 and the show begins at 8 p.m. On Saturday, October 29, there will also be a screening of the kinky rock musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Props will be available for purchase for this fun and interactive feature, and a prize will be awarded for the best costume.
