Scarlett Johansson Talks Possible 'Black Widow' Movie
East Ender Scarlett Johansson recently spoke to Variety for their Power of Women issue about her status with Marvel Studios.
Since her debut as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in Iron Man 2, fans have clamored for a Black Widow solo film. But with Marvel’s upcoming slate of films, Johansson is set to remain a supporting player, despite her popularity and the character’s rich history and potential. When asked if she has spoken to Marvel about a Black Widow film, Johansson told Variety, “I talked to them about it often. It would have to fit the idea of where they want to go. I’m invested in that character. Marvel is greatly invested in that character. If I did it, I’d have to do it while I still wanted to wear a skin-tight catsuit. I don’t know how much longer that’s going to be.”
After playing a supporting role in Iron Man 2, Johansson’s Black Widow has been heavily featured in the ever-expanding ensemble of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the name given to Marvel Studios’ films, which all exist in the same continuity). The character has appeared in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron and most recently in Captain America: Civil War. The character will likely play a part in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, but it remains to be seen if she will feature in Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel or the recently delayed Inhumans.
We’d certainly love a Black Widow film!
