This year’s Platinum winner, La Parmigiana (48 Hampton Road, Southampton, 631-283-8030) is a true family restaurant and longtime Hamptons fave offering an endless selection of homemade original pizza and pasta dishes, and a wide array of traditional Italian desserts. The restaurant has a pizza oven and takeout in back where you’ll find slices literally heaped with toppings, including long strips of pepperoni and sausage, peppers and onions and mushrooms, among many others. They have regular seating in front and a real Italian deli with all kinds of pre-made frozen dishes, meats, cheeses and products straight from Italy. They also offer catering, parties and more.
A family operation run by the four Volpe brothers, and this year’s Gold winner, La Volpe Ristorante (611 Montauk Hwy. Center Moriches, 631-874-3819 lavolperestaurant.net) combines a restaurant and pizza place with wood-burning pizza oven and the thin crusted pies. Ten individual pizzas are offered on the dinning room menu, which also features a variety of Italian dishes, including seafood and desserts. They also host events and cater everything from a family dinner to a corporate party.
With awesome Italian fare, seafood dishes, sizzling steaks and gourmet pizzas, all served with one of the best views in town, Edgewater Restaurant (295 East Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, 631-723-2323 edgewaterrestaurant.com) is our Silver winner. Look out over Shinnecock Bay through large windows or from the deck and take in the stunning scene while enjoying an excellent meal. They have Sunday brunch and all-night Prix Fixe Thursdays.
Tied for Bronze this year, Baby Moon (238 Montauk Highway, Westhampton Beach, 631-288-6350 babymoonrestaurant.com) has served fantastic Southern Italian cuisine for over 35 years in Westhampron Beach. Brothers Peter and John Gambino have created a menu with salads, unique pastas and pizzas, daily fresh seafood, and all types of fresh meat. They even have low-carb options—a rarity in Italian restaurants—with nutritional information and ingredients approved by nutritionist Layne Lieberman.
The other Bronze winner of 2016, Tuscan House (10 Windmill Lane, Southampton, 631-287-8703 tuscanhouse.us) is helmed by executive chef/owner William Oster who travels to Italy regularly to research cooking methods, ingredients, wines and foods in order to bring an authentic experience to his diners. He refuses to alter any dish in any way to ensure it’s presented exactly as intended, and guests are well rewarded for their trust.
