Dan’s 12 Wines of Christmas Dinner: Laurel Lake Tasting Notes
Have you purchased your tickets for Dan’s 12 Wines of Christmas Dinner, presented by The Cardinale Group? This exciting evening of local wines paired with a fabulous, four-course dinner prepared by North Fork Chocolate Company’s Executive Chef Steven Amaral is not to be missed.
Three Long Island vineyards will be represented, each bringing four unique and flavorful offerings. Today, we’re looking at the selections from Laurel Lake Vineyards.
Laurel Lake Pinot Noir: The primary fermentation of the 2012 Pinot Noir was made in an open tank pushing down the grapes three times per day to extract more flavors from the skin, and then aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels. This Pinot Noir is smooth, rich and fleshy with a complex array of cherry, plum and blackberry.
Laurel Lake 2013 Chardonnay: Unwooded Chardonnay. It’s a light, dry and generous fruit-driven wine; abounding in ripe pineapple, fresh lemon and mineral flavors. The palate displays pineapple and mineral characters with soft creamy finish. This Chardonnay is ideal for salads and appetizers.
Laurel Lake Sauvignon Blanc: The 2014 Sauvignon Blanc is a remarkable wine. Made in an opulent, soft-textured style, it reveals an array of grapefruit and lime peel, all beautifully framed by a persistent underlying note of grass. On the palate it displays tangy grapefruit and sweet flavors, with good mid-palate richness and vibrant acidity with a finish that goes on forever.
Laurel Lake 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve: This opaque, substantial wine bursts on the palate with flavors of ripe berries and toasty/spicy oak. This is a well-balanced wine with an intense aroma and a powerful, velvet finish. Note the deep red ruby color and soft, rich tannins.
