A massive blaze has destroyed several businesses on Sag Harbor’s Main Street today, Friday, December 16.
According to reports, the Sag Harbor fire started early this morning on a deck above Sag Town Coffee and spread quickly, enveloping multiple businesses, including Sag Town Coffee, RJD Gallery, Brown Harris Stevens, Compass Real Estate, the iconic Sag Harbor Cinema, founded in 1920, and others.
Sag Harbor Fire Department led the fight against this terrible conflagration, but numerous East End departments quickly came to their aid.
The fire has since been contained, but the damage is great. The facade of Sag Harbor Cinema, which has become an emblem of the historic whaling village, appears to have survived the fire, though reports indicate the roof collapsed and the inside is completely gutted. Thick, black smoke caused further damage on both sides of the street. No injuries have been reported.
Local residents, visitors and businesses recorded the heartbreaking fire and heroic actions by local firefighters in numerous pictures and videos on Instagram. Below, we’ve shared many of them, giving various perspectives on the grim scene in Sag Harbor.
