Make Foods from Seinfeld a la Binging with Babish

Remember that scene on Seinfeld, starring Hamptonite Jerry Seinfeld, when Elaine got hold of the Soup Nazi’s Wild Mushroom Soup recipe? Well, it wasn’t quite enough for fans of the show to make it at home, but Andrew Rea, the chef behind popular cooking show Binging with Babish has now made that dream a reality—soup for you and you and you and you!
Watch the video below to see Rea make the Soup Nazi’s recipe and two more excellent Seinfeld-inspired delights.
After the soup, Rea creates Elaine’s lemon poppy seed muffin top—it is, as she says, “where the muffin breaks free of the pan and sort of does its own thing.” And, as you’ll see in the video, baking only the muffin’s top is much better than tearing the top off a whole muffin. Who needs the “stumps” anyway?
Next, we follow Rea’s famous torso making babkas—one chocolate, one cinnamon—on Binging with Babish. In case you’re wondering, the babkas are from “The Dinner Party” episode where Elaine proclaims Jerry’s cinnamon babka inferior to the chocolate babka he intended to buy. In real life, however, it turns out Jerry got the best babka after all—at least according to Rea, who declares cinnamon babka the winner over its chocolate counterpart. That said, both of these loafs look unbelievable.
For those previously unaware of Binging with Babish (named for White House Counsel Oliver Babish on The West Wing), Rea’s torso can been seen on the show recreating all sorts of excellent foods from movies and television, such as Homer Simpson’s Moon Waffles, Pulp Fiction‘s Big Kahuna Burger, Goodfellas Prison Sauce (remember the razor blade-cut garlic?), Il Timpano from the film Big Night and many more. This video is Seinfeld Special Part I on Binging with Babish, so let’s hope we’ll see Part II soon. We’re imagining Rea could make a black & white cookie, marble rye, beefarino and possibly even a do-it-yourself pizza—true fans of the show will know exactly what we’re talking about.
Can you think of anything else? A “Jerk Store Is Running Out of You” shrimp cocktail perhaps?
