Riverhead's Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival Returns
Riverhead’s 21st annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival is this Sunday from noon–5 p.m.
Every Memorial Day weekend, families and friends gather to literally paint the town red—or any other color. This day of arts will include street painting, live music, gourmet food trucks, drumming, dance, theater and children’s activities.
The celebration will be held along the Peconic River and cover the grounds on the East End. The street painting festival is modeled after street painters I Madonnari, a form dating back to the 16th century, as well as other activities for all ages.
If you are over the age of 14 and are interested in participating, you should register prior to the event. Street painters will be matched with a sponsored square on a first come, first serve basis. The squares may also be purchased for $20 on the day of the event, with the supplies included.
The 2017 sponsors of the event include Bridgehampton National Bank, Knapp Sweezy Foundation and Teachers Federal Credit Union.
There will also be an artisan and craft fair, with vendors like A. Graziano Photography, East End Wood Designs, Henna Graphics, Luluknits, The Art Nanny, Resonant Handcrafts and Yan Yan Laing jewelry.
East End Arts is also looking for volunteers for the event, even if it’s for a few hours. The rain date for the event is Monday, May 29 from 2–5 p.m. For more information, visit eastendarts.org.
