Evolution? Hamptons Deer Are Getting Smarter
In my opinion, there has been a change in the behavior of the deer that are living amongst us here in the Hamptons.
In the past, coming out of the woods, they sometimes would cross the highways and bang into cars or have cars bang into them, which was not good. In the past year or two, they seem to have evolved a bit. They see a car coming and they run the other way.
Last week on Stephen Hand’s Path, a deer came out of the woods to cross the street, saw my car coming and stopped before stepping out into the road. I stopped too. We looked at each other for a moment, then he realized I was letting him cross, and so he did.
Halfway across he gave me a little nod and smile. Now this is real progress.
Where this goes, I do not know.
