The Dark Files: History Channel's Montauk Project Exploration Airs July 23
There’s still little information out about Montauk Chronicles filmmaker Christopher Garetano‘s new History Channel special—which continues his exploration into the Montauk Project and Camp Hero legends—but it now has a name and a release date. Garetano unofficially announced The Dark Files name via Facebook on June 2 and told fans it would air July 23 as a two-hour special on the History Channel.
NOTE: The Dark Files was delayed by History after this date was released. It aired on Friday, September 8, 2017. READ MORE HERE
“Get ready for a brand new adventure into the unknown,” Garetano, who is one of the show’s team of investigators, teased before revealing the much-anticipated show’s title and air date. “It will begin with the first (two hour) episode, concluding my ten year investigation of the mysterious Camp Hero Air Force base in Montauk, New York,” he continued, adding, “It’s been a long time in the making, folks.”
Garetano and his team filmed the special in various places in Montauk over the winter, including an interview with one of our team in the Dan’s Papers office! Of course there’s no telling who or what will make the final cut, and we don’t want to give away too much.
In a nutshell, the show will go beyond Garetano’s Montauk Chronicles film and delve deeper into the legends surrounding Montauk’s infamous Camp Hero military base, which is said to be the site of secret government experiments in mind control, interdimensional and time travel, alien research and more. As the Dark Files in America Facebook points out, these legends inspired the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, which was originally set in Montauk and named for the hamlet.
Garetano said more news and info would be available soon, so it seems likely a trailer and an official History Channel announcement will be out before long.
