Hamptons Home Run Challenge Goes to Bat for Local Charities
As we raise a bat to 2017 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby champion Aaron Judge—the New York Yankees rookie who is having a season for the ages a mere 100 or so miles from East Hampton and racked up 3.9 miles of long balls in Miami to become the Derby winner—we are also thrilled to announce that the Artists & Writers Celebrity Softball Game, presented by Dan’s Papers, will introduce its own take on this fan-favorite event with the first-ever Hamptons Home Run Challenge. And you can step into the batters box!
Prior to the 69th playing of the big game on Saturday, August 19, teams of two—one pitcher, one batter—will take the field at Herrick Park in East Hampton in a fierce and friendly competition to see who can knock the most balls over the fence at the historic field. The entry fee to this inaugural event is a $500 charitable donation per team to the Artists & Writers Game, which this year is raising money for four invaluable local charities: the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center, Phoenix House Academy, The Retreat and East End Hospice.
The East Hampton Artists & Writers Charity Softball Game is a 501(C3) that supports organizations that provide vital human services to the East End. They cover the full circle of life, from early childhood learning to hospice assistance for patients and families. They reach out to those trying to overcome addictions and to those who need to get beyond an abusive environment.
The game and its events are dedicated to building a community around the game and building a better game to serve the community. In the spirit of one of the longest-continuing traditions on the East End, celebrities, artists, writers, supporters and volunteers come together for entertainment, competition and fun to benefit local charities that provide vital human services. They ask your help in hitting it out of the park for the community we share and love, and entering the first-ever Hamptons Home Run Challenge is a great way to get into the action!
