Naomi Watts Shares Lynchian Text Message Exchange on Instagram

East Ender Naomi Watts is currently appearing in Twin Peaks on Showtime as the shrill but tough Janey-E Jones, the wife of Dougie Jones (Kyle MacLachlan), who has disappeared and been replaced with a befuddled Agent Dale Cooper.

You’re not alone. To further complicate matters, Watts shared on her Instagram a wacky text message exchange between her and Twin Peaks creator/director David Lynch in which Watts channeled her quirky character. Below is the full conversation she posted.

Lynch: 1:00 is great. No need to call Michael. See you then buttercup.
Watts: I’m Janey-E and I will come when I want to!!!
Lynch: Of course. Jeez what was I thinking – please don’t be mad at me.
Watts: I’m going to serve you your ass
Lynch: Should I go up with Dougie to say goodnight to sonny Jim
Watts: Yes and give him a PBJ
Lynch: Yes ma’am – can I meditate now first – PLEASE.
Watts: Haha x
Lynch: (heart emoji)
Watts: I know you’re meditating but…Just sending a buzzing sound to remind you I can mess with you because I’m Janey-E.
Lynch: Dear sweet Janey-E. I’m trying to meditate now. I’m sorry darling but this is sort of trying my patience – STOP IT B–CH!

The exchange is something that wouldn’t seem out of place in a Lynch film. Lynch, of course, is a follower of Transcendental Meditation, which is what he’s referring to in the texts.

Watts and Lynch first worked together in Mulholland Drive, a failed ABC pilot that Lynch retooled into an Oscar-nominated film. Watts starred as Betty, an aspiring Hollywood actress embroiled in a dark mystery.

In addition to Twin Peaks, Watts is starring in the psychological thriller Gypsy on Netflix.
