Scarlett Johansson Teases Black Widow/Hulk Drama in 'Avengers: Infinity War'
East Ender Scarlett Johansson has hinted that her Avengers character, Natasha Romanoff/The Black Widow, is headed for an emotional reunion…with the Hulk.
As viewers of the Marvel film series know, Black Widow and Hulk/Bruce Banner (played by Mark Ruffalo) were in the midst of a romance during Avengers: Age of Ultron. Things took a turn when Banner, afraid of his own rage and unable to control himself, disappeared at the end of the film, leaving Romanoff heartbroken.
Johansson recently appeared on Inside the Actor’s Studio, where she talked about the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, slated to release next year. “I just finished [shooting the film]. My character has this ongoing relationship with Mark Ruffalo’s character,” said Johansson. “I had such devastation that day. I don’t know why. I was so devastated…”It was something about this character that Mark plays, and this is something that should feel so solid and suddenly doesn’t or there’s…and it reminded me of so much of the things going on in my own life and at the time.”
Hopefully, the reunion won’t be a romantic one—the coupling was maligned as one of Avengers: Age of Ultron’s weak spots, with contrived moments such as Romanoff’s disclosure that she had a hysterectomy to complete her spy training (don’t ask).
