Big Rigs And Big Dreams
The promise of 104.7 WELJ’s Big Rigs event on Saturday at the YMCA East Hampton RECenter did not disappoint. Hosted by 104.7 WELJ, the event was a fundraiser for Stony Brook’s Children’s Hospital. Children and adults alike were treated to rides in a bucket lift, sending them more than 100 feet in the air for a bird’s-eye view of the festivities below.
East Hampton’s own firetruck, complete with an elevating platform and a crane that towered over 150 feet, police vans, and a SWAT truck were just some of the rigs that filled the parking area.
Several car dealerships provided exhibits including a display of the “Slingshot,” a car that even Batman would envy.
Children were further entertained by a petting zoo, games, a bouncy castle, a rock wall, and even a shark in a cage from the Long Island Aquarium.
The radio station’s 104.7 WELJ’s mobile “boombox” provided easy listening music, entertaining those awaiting their chance at a bucket ride or a photo opportunity on one of the rigs.
