DeMartis Retrospective In Springs
It’s the narrative of a man who painted and painted for over half a century. A retrospective exhibition of paintings celebrating the work of James Joseph DeMartis is on display this weekend in Springs.
“[He] was restless. He yearned to explore foreign cultures and landscapes and imbue his passion of painting with poetry and mystery,” said his son James, who put together the show.
The artist’s work was inspired by people, as well as his travels to Europe, Asia, South America, and locations in America.
“Canvases and works on paper captured a lifelong romance with the sea,” James continued. “His painting style was emotional, forceful, bold, and direct. Some paintings beautiful, others haunting and mysterious.”
The show will be held at Ashawagh Hall in Springs Friday, May 18, through Sunday, May 20. There will be an opening reception on Saturday from 6 to 9 PM. For more info about the artist, visit www.jamesdemartis.com or call 631-553-9479.
