Hayground Nixes Farmers Market
The Hayground School in Bridgehampton has made the difficult decision to not hold its popular Farmers Market this season.
“We reached this extraordinarily tough conclusion in the face of a dwindling number of vendors attending our weekly Hayground Farmers Market,” noted Tony Hitchcock, the school’s treasurer.
He added, “This decision was further reinforced by the departure of our market manager, Ella Engel-Snow, who following several years of tremendous service is leaving to pursue other interests.”
Originally founded in 2009 by Hayground School’s Jon Snow to create a venue for kids to sell produce and seedlings grown in the school’s garden, the idea was to develop a Friday afternoon market where folks would be more likely to linger and socialize while shopping for local food and products.

Hooked
A new seafood take-out spot, Hooked, has opened in Montauk. Brought to you by Brian and Gillian Mooney, Hooked moves into the space formerly occupied by Red Hook Lobster Pound, at 34 South Etna Avenue.
Brian, a 24-year veteran of the iconic Clam Bar at Napeague, is an expert shucker and has tight relationships with local fisherman providing him with the freshest local seafood right off the boats.
His wife Gillian is no stranger to the food business, having been co-owner of a landmark deli, Herb’s Market for over a decade.
Hooked features an open kitchen with counter service and picnic tables outside on the patio. The interior space has a beachy feel, with warm reclaimed woods and nautical décor.
The menu features seafood, salads, and land fare. The starters section, or “bait & lures,” includes chowders — New England, Manhattan, crab and corn — and lobster bisque. Also enjoy tuna bites, fried calamari, steamed mussels, and peel and eat shrimp.
If you are “hooked on lobster,” order a lobster roll, vine ripened tomatoes stuffed with lobster salad, lobster mac and cheese, or a whole steamed lobster.
The “locally hooked” section of the menu features grilled tuna, swordfish, or mahi mahi, a tuna poke bowl, and fish tacos. If you are looking for raw bar items, the “locally dug” section will catch your attention with Montauk pearl oysters, and local clams, and steamers.
Prices range from $6 to 19 for starters and $10 to $25 for main dishes. The signature dessert item is a house-made tiramisu.
Hooked will be open seven days in season from 11:30 AM to 8 PM. For more info, call 631-668-2111 or visit http://www.hookedmtk.com.
