Shelter Benefit promises family fun

Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation presents its second annual “Paws in the Park” dog walk on Saturday, May 19, from 11 AM to 3 PM at Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays. The fundraising dog walk promises a “paw-fect” day for families that includes shopping, dancing, face painting, prizes, goodie bags, and even a doggie fashion show. Live music will be performed by New Life Crisis, and the event will feature food trucks aplenty. Lawn chairs and blankets for picnicking are encouraged.

“Last year over 200 people attended this fun, community day,” noted Jerry Rosenthal, SASF’s Executive Director. “Building on the momentum of last year, we have additional vendors and additional food selections. All the proceeds of the event go directly to care for the animals under our care. If we reach our goal of $40,000, it would cover the costs of feeding the animals in the shelter through the remainder of the year.”

Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is a no kill, non-profit organization relying solely on donations and volunteers. As a safe haven for animals, including strays taken in from the devastation in Puerto Rico, SASF provides housing, food, medical treatment, training, and rehabilitation. The foundation connects human hearts to animals that need a second chance, helping to build loving new families.

More than 25 adoptable puppies are expected to walk. Kate McEntee, Director of Adoptions, said, “We have over 80 dogs in total for adoption. They will all be having fun at Paws in the Park and looking for their forever families. It’s a great day to get our dogs homes, and a family day of fun to support the shelter!”

The one-and-a-half-mile course encourages participants to bring their own dogs. Dogs must be registered to attend. Those attending with a canine are required to raise a minimum of $20 or pay $25 on site.
